Ever watched a plane climb out over the runway and wondered what it's like up front?

An Intro Flight with Toronto Airways puts you in the pilot's seat, with a certified flight instructor right beside you. It's a real flying lesson, not a sightseeing tour. Once you're clear of the airport's control zone, the airplane is yours to fly.

How It Works

1. Meet your instructor. Your flight starts on the ground at Peterborough Regional Airport (CYPQ). Over 15–20 minutes, your instructor walks you through the aircraft, your route and a safety briefing.

2. Walk around the aircraft. Head out to the apron and do a pre-flight inspection with your instructor, the same check every pilot does before every flight.

3. Take off. Settle into the left seat (the captain's seat) while your instructor shows you a takeoff from our 7,000-foot runway.

4. Fly the airplane. For up to 40 minutes in the air, your instructor demonstrates basic manoeuvres and then hands you the controls to try them yourself. If you'd rather just take in the view over the Kawarthas, that's fine too.

Good To Know

• Dress for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes. Sunglasses help, and bring your phone or a camera for the view.

• All flights depend on the weather. If conditions aren't safe, we'll work with you to reschedule.
